Ayrshire

Solar panels, batteries & heat pumps in Ayrshire

Ayrshire is straight down the M77 from Hillington: Kilmarnock in 25 minutes, Ayr and Prestwick in 40. The coast has some of Scotland's highest sunshine hours, the towns have straightforward 1930s–1980s housing, and the inland villages and Arran are largely off the gas grid — a good mix for both solar and heat pumps.

What we see on surveys here

Coastal towns

Ayr, Prestwick, Troon and Largs have Victorian villas and sandstone terraces alongside 1930s bungalows, with good south and west-facing roofs. The Ayrshire coast records more sunshine hours than most of Scotland, which shows in the generation figures.

Irvine new town and ex-council estates

Irvine was designated a new town in 1966 and, with Kilwinning, Kilmarnock, Ardrossan and Saltcoats, has a large stock of 1960s–1980s semis and terraces — simple roofs, cavity walls and lofts with space for a battery and inverter.

Inland villages and Arran

East Ayrshire villages around Cumnock, Mauchline and Dalmellington, South Ayrshire farms and the whole of Arran are mostly off-gas on oil, LPG or electric heating, where a heat pump with the rural or island grant uplift makes the biggest difference.

Heating in Ayrshire

The coastal towns and Kilmarnock are on mains gas. Inland East and South Ayrshire and Arran are not, with oil, LPG and storage heaters common — the homes where an air source heat pump pays back fastest.

Planning permission

Ayr town centre, Troon, Largs, Kilmarnock and several villages have conservation areas; Culzean and parts of Arran have additional landscape designations. Most houses still install under permitted development, and we prepare any application that is needed. Arran installs are scheduled around the Ardrossan–Brodick ferry with logistics built into the quote.

Common Questions

Questions from Ayrshire homeowners

Which parts of Ayrshire do you cover?

North, East and South Ayrshire — Ayr, Prestwick, Troon, Kilmarnock, Stewarton, Irvine, Kilwinning, Largs, Ardrossan, Saltcoats, Cumnock, Girvan, Maybole and the Isle of Arran among them.

Do solar panels perform well on the Ayrshire coast?

Yes. The Firth of Clyde coast has some of the highest sunshine hours in Scotland, and panels generate from daylight rather than heat. We use marine-grade fixings on exposed coastal roofs and size the system to your roof and usage.

Can you install on Arran?

Yes. Arran addresses qualify for the island uplift, taking the Home Energy Scotland heat pump grant to £9,000, and we schedule surveys and installations around the ferry with all logistics included in the fixed quote.
