Perth & Kinross
Solar panels, batteries & heat pumps in Perth & Kinross
Perth & Kinross is one of Scotland's most rural council areas, and outside Perth itself a large share of homes heat with oil, LPG or electric storage heaters. That makes it prime territory for air source heat pumps backed by the £9,000 rural grant — and for solar on the big roofs of farmhouses and village homes. We're about an hour up the M80 and A9.

What we see on surveys here
Farmhouses and rural cottages
Stone-built, often oil-heated, with outbuildings and ground space that make a heat pump installation straightforward and sometimes allow a ground-mounted solar array where the roof is unsuitable.
Perth city and the larger towns
Perth, Kinross, Crieff and Blairgowrie have Victorian stone terraces and villas alongside 1960s–2000s estates, mostly on mains gas — the familiar solar-and-battery-first route.
Highland Perthshire
Pitlochry, Aberfeldy, Dunkeld and the glens are largely off-gas, with the rural uplift widely applicable. Part of the area falls within the Cairngorms National Park, whose Authority handles planning.
Heating in Perth
Mains gas is largely limited to Perth and the towns along the A9 and M90. Elsewhere oil and LPG dominate, and an air source heat pump typically replaces them with lower running costs and the largest available grant.
Planning permission
Perth, Kinross, Crieff, Dunkeld and several villages have conservation areas; Highland Perthshire north of Pitlochry sits in the Cairngorms National Park. Most rural houses install under permitted development; where permission is needed we prepare the application.

Common Questions
Questions from Perth homeowners
Does Perth & Kinross qualify for the £9,000 heat pump grant?
Much of it does. Remote rural, island and off-gas accessible rural postcodes get the £1,500 uplift on top of the £7,500 Home Energy Scotland grant. Perth city does not; most villages, glens and farms do. We confirm from your postcode.
How often are you in Perthshire?
We group Perth & Kinross surveys and installations, typically fortnightly, so that travel never adds to your cost. We'll give you a date when you enquire.
Can you do ground-mounted solar?
Yes, where there is suitable ground and the roof isn't ideal — common on farmhouses and rural plots. Ground-mounted arrays usually need planning permission, which we handle.
