Homes in Lanarkshire

What we see on surveys here

New-town housing

East Kilbride and Cumbernauld were built largely between the 1950s and 1970s: low-rise terraces, semis and timber-frame houses with simple roofs that take solar well. Many are now due boiler replacements, which is the natural moment for a heat pump.

Sandstone and inter-war Paisley and Hamilton

Red sandstone terraces, villas and tenements in Paisley and Hamilton, plus 1930s bungalows across Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire — large roofs, mostly on mains gas.

Clyde Valley and rural Lanarkshire

Around Lanark, Carluke, Biggar and the villages south of the M74, homes are more often off-gas on oil or LPG, and the rural grant uplift can apply.

Heating in Lanarkshire

The towns are on mains gas; rural South Lanarkshire and the Clyde Valley are not. For gas homes the usual order is solar and battery first; for oil and LPG homes a heat pump comes first.

Planning permission

Most homes install under permitted development. Paisley, Hamilton and Lanark town centres and a number of villages have conservation areas where street-facing panels need permission. New Lanark is a World Heritage Site with its own rules. We check each address.
