Solar panels, batteries & heat pumps in Fife
Fife is just over the Kincardine and Queensferry crossings from us, about 45 minutes to Dunfermline and an hour and a quarter to St Andrews. It mixes large post-war and new-build towns on mains gas with rural villages and the East Neuk coast where oil and LPG are still the norm — so both solar-first and heat-pump-first homes are common here.

What we see on surveys here
Post-war and new-town estates
Glenrothes was built as a new town from the 1950s, and Dunfermline, Kirkcaldy, Leven and Methil have large estates of the same era: semis and terraces with simple pitched roofs that take solar easily and have loft space for a battery.
New-build Dunfermline and Dalgety Bay
Some of the fastest house-building in Scotland has been around Dunfermline, Rosyth and Dalgety Bay. Well-insulated new homes suit a heat pump running at low temperatures and a modest solar array covers a large share of demand.
Stone villages and the East Neuk
Cupar, St Andrews and the fishing villages of Anstruther, Crail, Pittenweem and Elie are largely stone-built, often in conservation areas, and frequently off the gas grid — strong heat pump candidates where planning is handled with care.
Heating in Fife
The towns along the Forth and the A92 are on mains gas, so solar and battery is the usual first step. Rural north-east Fife and the East Neuk have many oil and LPG homes where an air source heat pump delivers the largest saving and the rural grant uplift can apply.
Planning permission
St Andrews, Culross, Falkland, the East Neuk villages, Dunfermline's Abbey quarter and parts of Kirkcaldy and Cupar are conservation areas where street-facing panels need planning permission. Elsewhere most houses install under permitted development. We check each address and prepare any application.

Common Questions
Questions from Fife homeowners
Do you cover all of Fife?
Yes — from Dunfermline, Rosyth and Dalgety Bay in the west through Kirkcaldy, Glenrothes and Leven to Cupar, St Andrews and the East Neuk. We group Fife surveys weekly so there is no travel charge.
Can I install solar in St Andrews or an East Neuk conservation area?
Often, yes. Rear-facing slopes, flat roofs and positions not visible from the street are regularly approved; street-facing panels need planning permission from Fife Council and a sympathetic design. Listed buildings need listed building consent. We handle the application.
Does the £9,000 rural heat pump grant apply in Fife?
In the villages and farms of north-east Fife and the East Neuk it often does, because they are classed as accessible rural or off-gas. The towns do not qualify for the uplift but still get the standard £7,500 Home Energy Scotland grant. We confirm from your postcode.
